DMOS Breaks Ground on New DMOS – Ankeny Orthopaedic Center

Ankeny, IA – Local leaders and officials joined the surgeons at DMOS to celebrate the groundbreaking of “DMOS – Ankeny Orthopaedic Center” on October 28th. This new addition to Ankeny will be located on the corner of NE 36th Street and NE Trilein Drive, across from Briarwood Golf Course’ driving range.

Dr. Nick Honkamp kicked off the ceremony by talking about the impact this development will have on the community and what the venture means for DMOS.  “We have been excited about this for a long time and now, we can finally get this project underway,” stated Dr. Nick Honkamp, Sports Medicine Surgeon and DMOS Board President. Dr. Honkamp then went on to introduce the Ankeny-based surgeons who will practice exclusively out of this new location, Dr. Joseph Brunkhorst and Dr. Mark Isaacson.

“Being from Iowa, this means so much to my family and I to live and work in the Ankeny community. We are excited to complete this building, so we can begin practice in our permanent location,” stated Dr. Joseph Brunkhorst, Sports Medicine Surgeon.

“We can’t thank the Ankeny community and the DMOS team enough for welcoming both Joey and I to the area. Our families are excited and we are ready to plant roots here and service the community for years to come,” stated Dr. Mark Isaacson, Hip and Knee Surgeon.

Until the construction is complete, Dr. Brunkhorst and Dr. Isaacson will be temporarily practicing in the UnityPoint Health – Prairie Trail location, at 2515 SW State Street in Ankeny. This allows them to service the community during this time of transition. The estimated completion date of the DMOS – Ankeny Orthopaedic Center is Fall 2016.

When completed, the new DMOS – Ankeny Orthopaedic Center will be over 16,000 square foot large and will feature state-of-the-art x-ray and imaging equipment, an urgent injury clinic and various other services for patients.

“Our goal is to provide Ankeny with all of the orthopaedic care they need under one roof. There’s no need to drive to West Des Moines or downtown Des Moines if we can provide great medical care right here. With such a growing community, we see a great need and want to be there for the folks right here in Ankeny, on a permanent basis,” stated Dr. Nick Honkamp.
Some local organizations financial institutions have played a key role in the early development of this project.  Partners of the project thus far include: Enveiormental Design Group Ltd, McAninch Corp, and Bankers Trust.

DMOS is the largest independent orthopaedic surgeon group in the state, with 28 surgeons and 21 mid-level providers servicing four main locations and 17 satellite locations around the state. With the addition of the new Ankeny campus, the group will add its fifth dedicated campus. DMOS provides comprehensive services including X-ray, MRI, an Urgent Injury Clinic, a dedicated orthopaedic outpatient surgery center and on-site physical and occupational therapies.  These services are compliments to care received for an injury affecting almost any area of the body, from back and neck conditions, to joint conditions and hand injuries.
