Outpatient Surgery

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm
Outpatient surgery creates numerous benefits for your next surgical procedure, which is why each year over 54 million outpatient procedures are performed in the United States alone.

Outpatient surgery is best suited for healthy people undergoing less invasive procedures such as:

  • ACL reconstruction
  • Joint replacement
  • Carpal tunnel release
  • Arthroscopic surgery
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Thumb arthroplasty
  • Hardware removal
  • Ankle and wrist fracture surgery
  • Bunion removal
  • Tendon repairs
  • Achilles heel repair

Exceptional surgical care. Advanced technology. Outpatient convenience.

Currently DMOS offers two outpatient surgery centers. One in Ankeny at the Ankeny Medical Park Surgery Center (AMPSC) and the other is located in West Des Moines at the Orthopaedic Outpatient Surgery Center (OOSC). Each are joint ventures with our partners at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines.
Ankeny Medical Park Surgery Center (AMPSC)

Ankeny Medical Park Surgery Center (AMPSC) was established in 2019 as a joint venture between DMOS, UnityPoint Health-Des Moines and the Iowa Digestive Disease Center. FAQ

Is outpatient cheaper than inpatient centers?

Having your orthopedic surgical procedure done at an outpatient surgery center is significantly less expensive than having the same procedure done at a hospital. Hospital room charges and related costs are a substantial portion of the bill for a surgical procedure.

How should I prepare for outpatient surgery?

This will depend on the type of surgical procedure you are having. For specific details please contact your care team.

What are the benefits of outpatient surgery?

There are many advantages of outpatient surgery over traditional, inpatient surgery. These include the following:

  • The convenience of recovering in your home generally makes recovery time quicker and easier than an in-hospital stay.
  • Since there are no hospital room charges, and related hospital charges, costs are much lower for outpatient surgery. Some insurance companies will cover certain surgical procedures only on an outpatient basis, unless your physician certifies that you require a more intensive level of post-operative care due to an underlying medical condition.
