Our humble beginnings sparked from a conversation between a doctor and patient. In the late 1930s, Dr. Douglas Gibson, the first orthopedist in Des Moines, asked a then 12-year-old John Kelley what he wanted to be when he grew up. When John replied that he would like to be a doctor, Dr. Gibson suggested he study orthopedics and join him in practice after completing his training. In time, John made good on this promise, and together with Dr. Gibson founded Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons (DMOS) in 1955.
