FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST DES MOINES, IA–February 11, 2025–DMOS Orthopaedic Centers is pleased to announce the upcoming arrival of board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon, Matthew J. Herring, MD, who is scheduled to join DMOS in June of 2025. Dr. Herring comes from a military family, having lived across the U.S. and even attended high school in Germany. His wife hails from Waukee and most of his family currently resides in Minnesota. Dr. Herring loves the challenging nature of helping patients return to their highest level of function following an injury. He takes pride in listening to them and understanding their unique needs, as well as collaborating with others to develop a treatment plan that aligns with the best possible outcome for them. Offering the best evidence-based medicine that reflects the patients’ preferences and goals, he believes, is the true art of medicine and why he decided to become a doctor, specifically one that practices traumatology.

Dr. Herring completed his undergraduate coursework at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO where he double majored in Biology and Chemistry. He completed medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, CO. Dr. Herring completed his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN and his fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at the University of California – San Francisco in San Francisco, CA. He holds an active California and Iowa medical license and is part of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Orthopedic Trauma Association and the American Medical Association.

Now several years into his clinical practice, Dr. Herring specializes in orthopedic trauma surgery, including pelvis, acetabulum and limb salvage. After completing his trauma fellowship in San Francisco, he practiced at a busy Level 2 trauma center in Redding, CA. This opportunity challenged him to manage complex cases independently, pushing his surgical skillset and deepening his understanding of caring for critically ill patients.

As he transitions his practice to DMOS and Central Iowa, Dr. Herring is eager to bring his knowledge and experience to the community by providing the highest level of orthopedic trauma care. He looks forward to relocating his family back “home”. Outside of work, Dr. Herring enjoys spending time with his family, including his young daughter and his wife, as well as biking and traveling, especially to Europe. Dr. Herring jokes that he is an Iowa Hawkeye fan by marriage.

Dr. Herring will be seeing patients out of the Des Moines office located at 1301 Penn Ave, Suite 213 Des Moines, IA, 50316. To learn more about Dr. Herring or to schedule an appointment, please visit dmos.com or call 515-224-1414.
