Orthopaedic Outpatient Surgery Center (OOSC) Earns “Best” Status by U.S. News & World Report
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEST DES MOINES, IA–March 28, 2025–The news is out: U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers
announced that Orthopaedic Outpatient Surgery Center (OOSC) in West Des Moines has earned “Best” status. ASCs that perform procedures related to orthopedic & spine procedures (such as hip and knee replacements) were included in the evaluations. Ambulatory surgery centers were evaluated based entirely on objective, risk-adjusted measures of their patients’ outcomes, including how successfully they avoided complications, ER visits, unplanned hospitalizations and other undesirable outcomes. The analysis accounted for risk factors, including a patient’s pre-existing conditions. In all, in the 2025 Best ASCs ratings, 4,357 ASCs received a rating in at least one specialty. U.S. News recognizes only the highest-rated surgery centers that satisfy U.S. News' statistical assessment of performance; fewer than 17% of evaluated facilities earned a “High Performing” rating for the 2025 study.
“On behalf of OOSC and DMOS, we are incredibly proud and honored to be among the best of the best in what we do in the area of orthopedic and spine surgery,” said Dr. Nick Honkamp, orthopedic surgeon and DMOS and OOSC Board President. “This continues to be the best option for so many patients to get back on the road to recovery in the most safe and convenient way possible.”

About U.S. News & World Report: Advances in medical practice have played an important role in reshaping how and where care is delivered. Some surgeries that previously required inpatient stays can now be safely performed in outpatient settings, where patients can expect to return home on the day of the procedure. Because ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) have become an increasingly large part of the U.S. patient experience, U.S. News set out to help consumers, in consultation with their healthcare professionals, identify high quality ASCs for the most performed outpatient procedures.
